Introduction to filter vats

Filter vats are the component of the filter plates that collect and guide the filtrate liquid out of the filter and into the collectors.

Another important function of the Vat is to act as the support structure for the filter plate grids, which themselves act as the support structure for the filter cloth, while at the same time acting as a protective lining to the base plate.

The filter cloth and vat peripheral surface are the medium against which the sealing flats press in order to properly seal the filter chamber in order to achieve the high operating pressures of the Larox^® PF Filter.

Filter vat materials can be chosen from a wide range of polymers depending on their application. It is important to remember that material choice of both the filter vat and the sealing flat is an important combination that needs to be chosen according to Metso’s guidelines in order to ensure proper lifetime of these 2 components and proper sealing of the filter chamber.

Premium vat material

In response to increased demands for wear resistance in mining applications, we have developed a Premium Vat material of higher molecular weight and much better properties compared to the regular vats from the past.

Through extensive testing on Metso’s Premium Vats, we have achieved higher creep resistance compared to Metso regular Vat material.

Our Premium Vats achieve an overall better mix of properties that results in a prolonged lifetime of the vats, especially for the toughest applications.
